“BY YOUR SIDE” is the world’s first feature length documentary on life in a palliative care unit.
Drs Cynthia Parr and Andrew Broadbent develop close attachments to six patients and their families profiled in this moving doco that has been described as ‘strangely comforting and possessing a surprising level of humour’.
The patients display an uplifting attitude and two of them survive against great odds. They have different motivations and backgrounds. Ingrid is a German immigrant who wants one last visit to the casino. Frances tells Santa that he’s not the man he used to be.
Colin always wanted to own a Mustang. Bill worked for politicians and wants to complete his memoirs. Sid wants to go back farming. The irascible Margaret delights in being contrary.
